Let it Go

Self-imposed deadlines, getting things right, and letting go

I want my content and products to be amazing. Like many of us, I’m driven by deadlines and priorities. At times I find it a battle to meet my self-imposed deadlines for the new ‘thing’ I want to share.

This week has been all about updating my new jazzy newsletter. I wanted to launch it the first week of January. It’s now a month late. But does it matter?

This isn’t about being perfect. I let go of perfection a while ago. Instead, this was about competing priorities—getting season 2 of the podcast out and updating the related websites. Also, I wasn’t sure what and how to make the changes I wanted.

I had started to make changes over the last month. But I kept starting over since nothing seemed right. And yeah, it’s just a newsletter. BUT, it’s actually an important tool and I need it to match my intention. I finally shelved it and waited until I had time to truly focus on it.

I spent a better part of a week testing and editing email templates (not fun!), and aligning content and the purpose of this communication. It all makes sense to me now and I’m all jazz hands. Of course, it will still evolve. But I like it and it’s doing what I need.

HERE’S THE THING:

Priorities and deadlines are good for planning. However, the timing may not be right, and you need to let it go. And that’s okay. Don’t get hung up on it. It’ll happen. Focus, do the work, and just keep going.
